There’s no possible way to describe how alien this still all is. The parents came to a concert here in Oxford yesterday and took me out for tea (lovely carrot and orange cake!) Sounds normal, right? Except the hurried conversations when Mum went to the loo :- ‘She only had a 50% chance of making it to the end of the year. Doing remarkably well, isn’t she?’

The Occasional Scone
Truth be told, I haven’t had nearly as many scones as I’d like, since I’ve been at Oxford. I’d also like to be blogging more frequently. Hall food, although perfectly adequate and very reasonably priced, isn’t usually particularly spectacular. Not to mention the fact that I’d get some odd looks if I took photos of my food in the dining hall… But when I get the chance, scones still provide a brief, momentary happiness.
Gulab Jamun
The Oxford University Diwali ball was a culinary delight. I particularly enjoyed this Indian dessert, which consisted of dumpling-like balls of milky goodness. Yum.
Formal
It’s been a while, but here is some rather scrummy lemon tart I had at Formal Hall this Thursday. One of the most pleasant Oxford traditions – Formal Hall involves delicious food, formal gowns and a latin grace before and after the meal. This week I was sat next to the Junior organ scholar, who detests strawberries, so I agreed to swap my pudding with him. As you can see, his strawberry puree had slipped and was touching the tart, so he got my intact one instead.
