In the flurry of our May heatwave, I made a very large chocolate Birthday cake when I dashed home for a brief visit. Cooking chocolate cake, with a chocolate cream ganache topping, is never wise to do when it’s hot. Neither is taking said cake all the way to London by train, then across London by tube, during rush hour. I’ve noticed my revision-break-visits to the Nosebag are getting more and more frequent. While it’s lovely to sit high at the rickety tables away from the library, watching the world pass by on St. Michael’s Street below, these 20 minute breaks serve another purpose. I find it hugely important just to pause, think, condense, calibrate… It sort of circumvents those moments when it all suddenly becomes too much – making life not overwhelm me, before it even has. Plus, the Nosebag does the best scones, in my humble opinion… and I have tried a fair few in my time.
